The General Dental Council emphasises that “all dental professionals are responsible for putting patients interests first, and acting to protect them”.  As part of that commitment all dental professionals must undertake continuous professional development (CPD).

Medical emergencies are one of the three core subjects which must be covered in any 5 year CPD cycle. The GDC recommend a minimum of 10 hours is spent on medical emergencies in that time period, with a recommendation of at least 2 hours CPD conducted in this subject every year.

CPR & Medical Emergencies for Dental Practices

Duration: 4 hours
Formats: Face-to-face or blended

Who is it for?

Our CPR & Medical Emergencies for Dentists course is for Dental Practices who are due both CPR and Medical Emergencies updates. It covers both elements in one sitting in a comprehensive 4-hour course.

What does it include?

Module 1 - CPR & AED:

  • The ABCDE approach for assessing acutely sick patients
  • Care of the unconscious casualty (recovery position)
  • Basic CPR hands-on practise
  • Using an AED device
  • Choking
  • Scenario-based exercises
  • Working as a team

Module 2 - Medical Emergencies & Emergency Drugs:

  • Recognition of cardiac emergencies including angina and heart attack
  • Recognition and treatment of a range of conditions including:
    • acute asthma
    • anaphylaxis
    • epilepsy
    • hypoglycaemia
    • fainting (syncope)
  • Review of your emergency drugs & equipment

How long is it?

Our combined CPR & Medical Emergencies course runs for 4 hours, and can be scheduled to suit your working day, either morning, at afternoon or across the middle of the day.

How is it delivered?

Full Face-to-face - in your Practice:

In this mode, it's delivered in a single 4-hour block, at a time to suit you. The first 2 hours will cover your CPR training while, after a short comfort break, the second two hours will go through your medical emergencies and medical drugs. It is primarily available on your premises in the East Anglia, Greater London and Midlands areas. However if you have a specific requirement, do get in touch, and we'll let you know if we can travel out to you, and will provide you with a quote including all training, course materials, certificates and expenses.


Blended (Part online, part in your Practice):

In this mode, all staff do the online training first (you can start, pause and restart as often as you like during your 90-day licence). This takes between 1 and 2 hours. Then our trainer comes to your Practice for the practical elements of the training.


Face-to-face - at our venue in Bedford:

CPR and AED for Dental Practices

Duration: 2 hours
Format: Face-to-face

Who is it for?

This Dental CPR & AED update is for Dentists, Dental Nurses, other Dental Practitioners, Managers and Administrators and other Practice staff who need to update their basic CPR and AED skills as part of their annual CPD. It can either be taken as a standalone course, or in combination with the Medical Emergencies and Emergency Drugs module.

What does it include?

  • The ABCDE approach for assessing acutely sick patients
  • Care of the unconscious casualty (recovery position)
  • Basic CPR hands-on practise
  • Using an AED device
  • Choking
  • Scenario-based exercises
  • Working as a team

How long is it?

This basic Dental CPR & AED course runs for 2 hours, and can be scheduled to suit your working day, whether that is in the morning, afternoon or over a lunchtime.

How is it delivered?

Full Face-to-face - in your Practice:

This course is delivered in a single 2-hour block, at a time to suit you. It is primarily available on your premises in the East Anglia, Greater London, South and Midlands areas. However if you have a specific requirement, do get in touch, and we'll let you know if we can travel out to you, and will provide you with a quote including all training, course materials, certificates and expenses.


Face-to-face - at our venue in Bedford:

Dental Medical Emergencies Only

Duration: 2 hours
Formats: Face-to-face or Online

Who is it for?

This Medical Emergencies for Dentists course is for all Dental Practice staff who need an update on Medical Emergencies and the contents of their drugs kit that is used to treat them. You can have this training as a standalone course, either online or face-to-face if you've already had your CPR update, or if you'd like to split your training across two dates, to minimise the impact on your patients. Alternatively you can combine it with your CPR & AED training, as part of our 4-hour CPR & Medical Emergencies course.

What does it include?

This Medical Emergencies course includes:

  • Recognition of cardiac emergencies including angina and heart attack
  • Recognition and treatment of a range of conditions including:
    • acute asthma
    • anaphylaxis
    • epilepsy
    • hypoglycaemia
    • fainting (syncope)
  • Review of your emergency drugs & equipment

How long is it?

Our Dental Medical Emergencies course runs for 2 hours, and can be scheduled to suit your working day: in the morning, afternoon or or over a lunchtime. If you do the online version of the course, you can start, pause and resume it as often as you like while your licence is valid. Typically, the online version takes around 1 to 2 hours of independent study time to complete.

How is it delivered?

In-House:

When run in-house, this course is available on your premises in the East Anglia, Greater London and Midlands areas. However if you have a specific requirement, do get in touch, and we'll let you know if we can travel out to you, and will provide you with a quote including all training, course materials, certificates and expenses.


Online Only:

This is a pre-recorded course, including text, audio, video, quizzes and assessments. It can be taken on desktop, tablet and mobile devices, and can be paused and resumed when required. Once you've started the course, you have 90 days to complete it, and can retake quizzes and assessments as many times as you wish during that time.
